Here are the first batch of sketches I did for our History of Costume Class last term, These were drawn without our Fashion Sketching Class yet so good enough for someone without the training? Anyway, history of costume fascinates me; there’s just so much to learn about the culture and the history of these eras.

These were done around May 2011, and my style of sketching has definitely differed already, but anyway here they are!

First we had to draw an authentic Egyptian Costume and Cleopatra was the inspiration. I love white, I love how clean and Queen-like it is and so I incorporated it in this sketch. Beads & accessories were very dominant with the Egyptians also.

Here’s the modern interpretation of the previous sketch; we had to create an outfit inspired with that Cleopatra look.

Then we moved on the Greek Costume. This era strongly reminds me of gods & goddesses and how you’d usually see them in draped clothing. Greek Costume was mainly in white and gold. I love how the Greeks look clean & elegant.

Roman Costume was similar to the Greek’s, just like how their culture is closely related to each other’s. They were also dominant in drapes, although they had Royal Red in their clothing.

Here’ the male Roman Soldier. It was a bit of a challenge to draw this and to get the parts of the armor right.  Reminds me of Julius Ceasar & Michael Anthony.
