Here’s the output of our Final Project for our Fashion Sketching Class. This took tedious work and everyone’s output was just stunning. I’ll do a separate post on the details of my Death Carnival collection, but for now, here’s what my classmates have create. I was so stunned when I saw all of these, they were too gorgeous.

The scenario was for us to create our best looks as a designer if we stepped back or forward in time to our chosen era.

Here are some of the works of my friends, Who wouldn’t be impressed with these?

This was really tedious work that I couldn’t rush so I had to work on it weeks before our Finals for our Fashion Sketching Class was due. We were given the freedom to select any theme to work on, as long as it followed the guidelines. I chose to work on DEATH CARNIVAL; I wanted something dark that can give goosebumps down your spine. I didn’t want the typical fashion illustrations of glam and beauty so this is what I did. I still managed to maintain femininity.

It’s only now I truly enjoyed working with watercolors and markers at the same time. Here’s photos of this project in progress.

After studying fashion through out the ages, we’ve finally given the freedom to design our own 90’s collection. This was for our HISTORY OF COSTUME Class back last term. I’ve done 12 sketches and here they are. I was inspired by Polka Dots and decided that it was the motif for this collection. Hope you guys enjoy!

Here’s a compilation of all my plates so far for our Fashion Sketching Class 2nd Term 2011. This term is currently about Color Rendering since last term was about figure sketching. We’re starting from the basics so excuse my mediocre plates since I’m still adapting to these techniques.

For more sketches: visit http://www.andiejavelosa.tumblr.com

PLATE 01: Solid Color Rendering, One Piece Swimwear, Watercolor

Im still struggling on drawing the face, especially in getting the eyes part right. Im glad this and the next plate was displayed since it got a grade of 90+ up.

PLATE 02: Partial Rendering, One Piece Swimwear, Markers

PLATE 03: Shading

PLATE 04: Evening Gown, Shiny Material with Embellishments

PLATE 05: Rendering Matte Texture, Colored Pencils, Markers

For this plate we had to render feathers, chiffon, iridescent, wool, weaved materials and fringe. This was a bit of a challenge to do. The next plate are the originals I did, but I had to redo my plate to include more of these textures. Anyhow, I still like these so Im posting them.

Here’s my second batch of sketches for my History of Costume Class last term. For more sketches or bigger resolution of these illustrations, visit: http://andiejavelosa.tumblr.com

Authentic Byzantine Costume. I was very well inspired by Eva Green’s character in the film The Kingdom of Heaven. This was actually the second sketch I did because I didn’t like the first one. This era contained layers of clothing and coverage.

Here’s the modern interpretation of the Byzantine Costume; I created a maxi dress, added the hue of hot pink to give it that modern feel.

Authentic Romanesque Costume. Practically similar to Byzantine clothing; full length skirts, long sleeves, hooded garments because this era was said to be under the “colder climate”.

Modern Interpretation of Romanesque Costume. I kept the hues I used with the previous sketch and created another maxi dress.

This one is definitely my favorite; the authentic Gothic Costume. This was during the medieval ages; the era im most fascinated with. This was the period for Crusades, knights, wizards, castles and dark magic; its just hella interesting.  Not only do I love the construction of garments, the culture as well seems so rich. Elements were composed of flowing garments, cloaks, tunics, emblems and hennins(the pointed hat thing.)

My modern interpretation of the Gothic costume is also my favorite, and most of my classmates liked this one the best as well. It’s definitely inspired from its original piece while looking really modern and trendy.

These were the assignments we had to past for this week. Last week we discussed Roman & Greek Costume or Clothing. Here’s my interpretation of the homework, though I find my sketches a bit plain and boring, but oh well.

Roman Soldier:

Roman Noble Woman. Roman clothing was dominant in whites, golds and a bit of red. Drapes were common.

Greek Male in Chlamys. Chlamys is a typical wardrobe for the Greeks. Our professor corrected me that there is supposed to be nothing worn under the Chlamys. My sketch just failed that part.

Greek Woman in Fret Design. Fret is that square in a spiral pattern found in Greek Clothing. The Fret in my design is pretty microscopic but its the one around the waist and arms that looks like a string from this point of view.

Subject: HISTORY OF COSTUME

So, for our first lesson for this term, we are tackling Ancient Egyptian Fashion. I did a research, most of the elements you can find in their clothing were lots of jewelry made of gold, beads & stones. They were loaded with accessories, exactly my thing.

We were tasked to design an ancient version and a modern interpretation.

All designs, drawings and executions are done by me.

CLEOPATRA COSTUME

Ancient Egyptian Costume. I stuck to white because it is clean, classy and elegant. The neck piece/collar also doubles as a necklace made with small colorful beads, gold metals and turquoise. The cobra head-piece is also made of gold, decorated with colorful beads.

Initially, I just thought of a dress, then I just added the sheer piece of light gold fabric draping down from her shoulders, edges are also decorated with beeds. I took a page from the typical Egyptian Style where the dress is held by two straps around the waist. I can imagine Cleopatra in this. If I was born during that era, I’d want this dress!

Modern Interpretation

I kept the neck piece, still made with brightly colored beads, only that this time its actually a necklace; separate item from the dress. I stuck with white for the top, still has that drape-like feel on it. The skirt is a tight black high-waist. Details are again, made with the beads.

I think this is wearable enough for women today; I can also seem to picture this out on the runways. I think I will really enjoy this class; for one it allows us to be extra creative and go crazy with the designs. I enjoy ancient and historical costumes.

Afterwards, Lua & I had to go to Glorietta to buy more supplies for our class tomorrow. It was raining hard, Nico rode with us to Ayala. This time, we really felt the stress and hassle of being a Fashion Design Student. We had to run from floor to floors just to buy matterials. It was pretty late so we were under time pressure. We were running around the mall with rolls of Patern Papers, Box Boards & Fabric. :| It was a load of items. We still got to visit F21 after though. I was tired and dead as a veggie afterwards.

Feb. 17, 11

I drew this during our INTRO to FASHION Class, I was in the big mood for sketching coz I just felt so inspired with everyone doing their own sketches for the homework.

yoursummerstar.tumblr.com requested me to draw a sketch for her consisting of corset-like or bralet-like tops with a ballerina tutu inspired skirt. Sam, I’m so sorry this was super late!

These remind me of Betsey Johnson and how crazy and funky her doll-like designs go.
